So since [info]mricon already spilled the beans, I'm moving to New York City at the end of November. Having never really been to NYC (I drove through it once), this is more than a little crazy. But it's a great opportunity and I've never lived anywhere but Montréal, so it should be a bit of an adventure. Pretty scary too.

I'm hoping my new job won't completely kill my free time and my ability to work on Debian, but I'm guessing it will for a couple of months. Apologies to everyone for not having gotten Iceweasel packages together yet, but between wisdom teeth being pulled and "real life" and my co-maintainer taking a sabbatical, it's been tough to make progress.

I'm also looking for replacements for me here in Montréal, both at work and at home. If you're in the city and have some good Linux SysAdmin experience or want to share a nice apartment with a couple of LJers drop me a line.
  • Working for Google will absolutely kill your free software output. I understand that working there is too much fun.

Either that, or they'll implant a keeper at the base of your neck. I keep on forgetting which is the official story.
  • Welcome to NYC!

    Hi Eric,
when you come to NYC, email to debian-nyc-soc@lists.yukidoke.org. Its a local (tri-state, nyc, nj and ct) list for Debian folks maintained by Mako.
Also, at my local LUG, nylug (nylug.org), we have google folks stopping by all the time (and even recruting!). So maybe stop by there too!
    cheers,
    Kev

Congrats! You're still maintaining Iceweasel, right? Can you tell us a bit what you're expected to work on while at Google?

At least you're here for one last Québec Free Software Week, 11th - 19th :)
    • Re: rym.waglo.com

Not entirely sure yet really. I'll be part of the Site Reliability time, so front line sysadmin type stuff.

Geez, I hope I have time to check some stuff out at least!
    • bad topic

Oups, sorry about the topic, the comment entry form is freaking out a little. Still, happy openID works :)

So, hope to see you before you leave. I hear we're having yet another famous party, on the 18th...

Loved the B5 reference (unless I'm a fool), I've just watched the 5 seasons again, finished only last week.
